2012 Celebrity Weddings Offer Plenty of Trends to Borrow

2012 is coming to and end and we found some celebrity wedding trends from this year here on tressugar.com that might or might not be worth carrying into the new year. What are some of your favorite wedding trends from this year? Should they stay or go in 2013?

Belted Dresses

One of the themes for this year's bridal style: put a belt on it. Drew Barrymore's wedding dress flattered her baby bump thanks to a thin black belt, and Mariah Carey sported a similar bow style when she renewed her vows with Nick Cannon. A more subtle version was on David Guetta's wife, Cathy, who chose a white belt to match her dress during their renewal ceremony.

Colorful Wedding Dresses

One of the most buzzed-about gowns of the year? Jessica Biel's pink Giambattista Valli wedding dress, which seemed especially bold compared to her usually sleek, formfitting styles. Anne Hathaway's off-the-shoulder Valentino wedding gown made waves, too, thanks to the subtle pink ombré style of the skirt's front. Beyond the rosy hue, bride Amber Tamblyn sported a yellow dress to match her sunflower bouquet.

Natural Settings

The venue tends to set the tone for a wedding, and 2012 couples were all about the great outdoors. Rustic details, natural light, and an eco-friendly spin make outdoor weddings a popular choice for both stars and noncelebs alike. Fashion icon Margherita Missoni's wedding took place on a small farm in Italy, while Hollywood starlets Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway were both married in Big Sur, CA.

Natural Hairstyles

Updo? What updo? This year, brides went easy breezy with casual, effortless waves. American Idol's Jonna Walsh wore her hair long and loose when she wed Lee DeWyze, while Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott pulled just a small section up for her wedding to Chris Tyrrell. Other brides who kept things natural? Martha Patterson, who wed Kings of Leon's Jared Followill; Brandon Jenner's wife, Leah Felder; and Clueless star Elisa Donovan.

Statement Rings

Between Blake Lively's huge oval engagement ring, Jennifer Aniston's giant stunner, and the incredible ring Brad Pitt designed for Angelina Jolie, 2012 was the year of A-listers' standout stones. Most recently, Kelly Clarkson showed off her gorgeous yellow diamond — another can't-miss rock.

Televised Nuptials

TV weddings are the new norm! Last year, Nick and Vanessa Lachey aired their nuptials on TLC, and this year Mario Lopez and Courtney Mazza did the same. Plus — in keeping with past Bachelor couples like Trista and Ryan Sutter and Molly and Jason Mesnick — Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum have also tied the knot on TV. Thanks to TLC shows like A Wedding Story and Four Weddings, even noncelebs' nuptials are airing on TV these days.

Wedding Getaways

Several celebrity couples chose destination weddings this year, including Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds's ceremony at a South Carolina plantation. Across the pond, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were married in Italy, while Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon renewed their vows in Paris. As for exotic getaways, Mario Lopez and his wife chose Mexico, while both Brandon Jenner and Jack Osbourne decided to say "I do" to their wives in Hawaii.

Standout Headpieces

This year, famous brides chose elaborate headpieces for their big days. Camila Alves picked out a dainty headband, Natalie Portman opted for flowers, and Anne Hathaway went all-out with a bold accessory that matched her gown. Other eye-catching headpieces: Margherita Missoni's silver tiara and the delicate headband Tara Wilson wore when she wed Chris Noth.
